TOPIC 20 It is better for children to grow up in the countryside than in a big city. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reason and examples to develop your essay.
Though a considerable of people hold the opinion that the environment of countryside is better than that of city for children to grow up, I think that the city environment benefits children for its quality-oriented education, better public infrastructure, and more opportunities for college.
First of all, students in the countryside have suffered a lot in the examination-oriented education system. Before graduating from high school, students in the countryside concentrate their time exclusively on how to get high scores in the examinations. Ironically, any activities except study will be regarded as disobedient or allegedly rebellious. Instead, in the quality-oriented education system, children in the city concern more about how to improve their comprehensive competence. They tend to consciously do activities which parents in the countryside may consider as ridiculous. For instance, my friend Lee, who grew up from Beijing, has being interested in Botany since preliminary school. As a student of liberal art, he joined a study group on the issue of flower-growing, which is totally unrelated to his school study. However, their group finally achieved a great honor in Botany Competition of The World.
Additionally, facilities of health care, schools and some other infrastructures are of excellent quality in the cities. For instance, when children get sick, it is significant to take them to the hospital immediately, for some serious ill may lead to severe diseases like infantile paralysis. However, in the countryside, situations are totally different.
And finally, there are more changes for children in the cities to get into well-known universities. City universities have large numbers of spaces reserved for local students while they have relatively fewer spaces for ones from the countryside. If I have children, I would raise them in a city.
With respect to all the evidence mentioned above, it is not difficult to conclude that surrounding in the cities is better than that in the countryside for children to develop.
